March 28 – We will be open for skiing today. We are not grooming today. A coating of snow overnight gives us a fresh surface, so today should be nice spring conditions with approximately 10K open for skiing. On the east side, Lake Trail, Vasa, and Era Polku are open. Older classic tracks on Lake Trail and Vasa are in good condition. The sun exposed ends of Lake Trail have lost coverage and the small hill near the road crossing is challenging, otherwise Lake Trail is good. Some thin and bare spots on Vasa and Era Polku. On the west side, a short section of Sisu is open for two way skiing with good coverage. Karhu is open for advanced skiers, lots of good snow on the flats but challenging conditions on downhills. Snowshoe trails open. Food service closed for the season. Online ticket sales are closed for the season, if we are open day passes and rentals may be purchased when you arrive.
Future outlook: Based on current forecasts, we expect rain tonight into Saturday, perhaps continuing through the weekend. The ski shop will be open Saturday for end-of-season rental returns and equipment purchases. Trail status Saturday and Sunday will depend on timing of rain ,we still have deep base but will not open trails if rain is expected most of the day. Monday and Tuesday (March 31 and April 1) we will be closed. If conditions permit we will be open Wednesday April 2 for anyone who wants bragging rights for skiing in April. Long range forecasts look like more warm and wet weather after that, unless that changes Wednesday April 2 will be the last day of the season.
